NE – 2017 Annual Conference: The Shape of (Central) Europe

International Conference – Prague, November 30 – December 1, 2017

The Aspen Institute Central Europe, in the framework of AIfE, organized an international conference entitled “The Shape of (Central) Europe”, which assesed the state of affairs in Central European countries and the ramifications of recent regional, European, and global developments.

 

The panels of the Conference focused on following thematic areas:

  • How to succeed in Europe and globally – which will cover the issues of economic competitiveness, quality of education and good governance;
  • How to increase resilience in Central Europe – which will be assessed through the combination of national security and quality of life aspects;
  • What is the future of Europe and its integration endeavor from the Central European perspective in the context of the French and German elections; and
  • What are the prospects of the Transatlantic Partnership after Brexit and the first year of Trump presidency.

Among the distinguished speakers who attended and bringed their invaluable expertise and insight to the Conference were:

  • Nicholas Burns, Goodman Family Professor of the Practice of Diplomacy and International Relations, Harvard Kennedy School, Former US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs;
  • Mikuláš Dzurinda, President, Wilfried Martens Centre, former Prime Minister of Slovakia;
